Full property description

This traditional 17th century residence in Artemonas village is excellently located on the main pedestrian street, which is lined with neoclassical buildings and mansions. It faces south and has a marvelous, unobstructed view of the traditional settlements, the monastery of Profitis Ilias, and the ancient Acropolis of Agios Andreas.
The building and its location are of great architectural interest, since it constituted, along with two or three others, the nucleus of the first permanent settlement outside the fortified village of Kastro, when - in the mid-17th century - piracy in the Aegean Sea was in decline and life outside Kastro became safe.

While the house has been reverently preserved by its artist-owner, maintaining its magnificent traditional character, it has all the necessary comforts. It is equipped with the authentic furniture of an island home, antiques and works of art, as well as examples of the great ceramics tradition of Sifnos.

The main residence (70 m2) consists of two bedrooms accommodating 4–5 people, living room with dining area, kitchen, and bathroom with shower.
The eastern bedroom has a loft with a queen-size bed; it also has a fire-place and a functional private entrance from a small stone-paved pedestrian street.
The second bedroom has a smaller double bed and accesses the living room, where another person could sleep overnight on the traditional island sofa, which also has a trundle bed.

The separate guest house (30 m2) has its own entrance and can accommodate up to 3 people. It consists of a single open-plan living room and kitchenette with fireplace, small double bed, divan sleeping one and a bathroom with shower.

The residence’s great advantages - rare for Sifnos and the densely-built settlement of Artemonas - include a stone-paved terrace (approx. 100 m2), running along the length of the façade, with a vine and built-in seating, as well as a garden (approx. 350 m2) with shrubs and fruit trees. The view from every point of the property - including the interior of the house - is wonderful.

An open-air public parking lot is a short distance away (approx. 200 m). A bakery, restaurants, coffee-shops, supermarkets that deliver, and local markets selling traditional products are just a short walk away.
The property is ideal for a group of friends. It can also accommodate two families, one in the main residence, and another, perhaps a couple with a child, in the guest house.

Area description

Although Sifnos is one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades, it has yet to be discovered by many tourists. Its many picturesque villages, monasteries, hiking paths and clear water beaches are very well known in Greece. The island is also famous for its traditional pottery and delicious food.

Artemonas is a quiet village and the gem of Sifnos. It owes its name to the worship of the goddess Artemis. The beautiful small settlement displays some of the most elegant traditional old mansions of Sifnos with verdant gardens. A stroll around the village reveals the unique Venetian and neoclassical architecture, as well as small shops, restaurants, an excellent pastry shop & an open-air cinema!

Apollonia, the capital, has lost nothing of its traditional charm. There are many shops selling local jewelry and pottery, as well as clothing and home furnishings. The town also offers restaurants serving regional or broadly Mediterranean food and a great nightlife with a full range of cafés, bars and clubs.

Kastro with its breathtaking views is also a village well worth visiting.

The famous monastery of Chrysopigi, built on a rocky islet, is a must! You can swim in the crystal-clear waters of the sandy beach of Apokofto near Chrysopigi, or visit Platys Yialos, Vathi, and Fasolou. Afterwards, have lunch at any of the local tavernas found on every beach.

The monasteries of Profitis Ilias and Aghios Simeon offer a panoramic view of the whole island from up high.
