Full property description

The house was built in the 1870s in the small village of Eleimonas-Katavati at the island of Sifnos. The architecture of Sifnos is Cycladic, and the island has strict preservation rules that protect the vernacular look of the villages. This large two-storey house has preserved the authentic Cycladic style with its thick walls, wooden double doors and stone paved floors, while providing the comforts of a modern home. It still bears the spaciousness and the atmosphere of its time.

A few years ago it was photographed for an article named “Beautiful houses of the Aegean” for the Greek “Ideal Home” magazine (see enclosed photos by Marianna Economou).

It has two floors. The first floor contains two bedrooms and a large sitting room with a balcony and the main entrance. The ground floor contains one bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen and a sofa room adjacent to the kitchen. The house can comfortably accommodate 6 people, plus 1-2 kids.

There is a large terrace leading to the garden, with a panoramic view of the island and the sea. The garden is 820 sq.m. large with olive and fig trees.
The distance from the parking place to the house is a five minute walk on a straight paved lane. There is telephone and WI-FI access.

Everything is quite beautiful.

Sitting room: Very tall ceilings give grandeur to this traditional, bright and stately room. Has a long desk, 2 large sofas, a bookcase, several armchairs, and a little balcony that overlooks the terrace. An additional side terrace leads to the main entrance of the house, which opens onto the sitting room.

Upstairs bedroom 1, first floor: Has an antique double brass bed, and a hand painted closet, and two windows overlooking the view. This bedroom opens onto the sitting room.

Upstairs bedroom 2, first floor: This bedroom has a bunk bed consisting of a double bed and a single one over it. Is ideal for a couple with a young child. This bedroom opens onto the sitting room.

Kitchen: “French farmhouse” in style, the kitchen is beautifully decorated with antique pottery from the island. Has an electric stove, oven, refrigerator and a wooden table that sits 6-8, together with a small sofa. The kitchen has one door that opens onto the terrace, and one that opens onto an enclosed back yard and the bathroom.
A long room opens with double doors onto the kitchen, which has a writing desk, a cupboard and leads to the interior staircase of the house.

Bedroom, Ground Floor: Has one double bed, a desk, and is adjacent to the kitchen. Is on the same level as the bathroom and overlooks the terrace.

Bathroom: Has a shower, WC, and large sink. Opens onto the enclosed back yard.

Enclosed Back Yard/ Ground Floor entrance: Is the most commonly used entrance for the ground floor; has a washing machine closet, plenty of space to store beach accessories, and a hanging line.

Upstairs Terrace: This private terrace is just outside the main entrance to the house.

Large Terrace: In the summer, this terrace is the center of the house. It has two levels, and three very distinct sitting areas. A large stone-built sofa and many stone ledges frame the terrace. Two stone tables, one sitting 8-10 and a smaller one sitting 4-6 are protected from direct sunlight by the large pine tree that hangs over the house. The view from the terrace looks toward the main village and the sea, and over a quiet terraced valley.

Garden: Fig trees and olive trees grow in this large garden, together with an enormous pine tree that provides thick shade for the terrace and has a swing.
The view from the garden is panoramic and there is a bella-vista bench at the far end of it.
